Roma Independent Film FestivalBefore Rome's new film festival started in 2006, there was the Roma Independent Film Festival. For a week in the spring, the Independent Film Festival shows a range of indepedently produced films from around the world. The competition is divided into several categories including feature films, documentaries and student shorts.

The 2009 (8th) edition of RIFF took place between 19-27 March, when the best film award was presented to Steve McQueen's Hunger.
