Between June and September every year, Isola Tiberina (the island in the middle of the Tiber river) is host to a cinema festival known as L'Isola Del Cinema. This now consists of three screens: the Arena Groupama, Cinelab, and the Schermo Tevere.
Films shown in recent years have included Hitchcock and Kubrick retrospectives and films by Robert Altman and Wong Kar Wai, along with many other Italian and foreign films.
As well as the films, the island and the banks of the river are lines with bars, cafès and a wide variety of stalls selling everything from environmentally friendly knickknacks to DVDs. It's the perfect place to spend a summer evening, having a drink with friends and browsing the stalls.
