I keep forgetting to renew my Bibliocard. If you haven’t come across one of these, it’s a sort of souped-up library card. It costs €5 a year, and for this you get all the usually library borrowing rights, plus a selection of discounts around the city.
I got mine a year ago and never quite got around to using it, not even to borrow a book. I hadn’t quite realised all the things you can do with it. For example, most of the museums around Rome let you in at the discounted rate (normally about €2 cheaper) on production of a Bibliocard. According to the Bibliocard website, you can also get discounts at a range of theatres, events, cinemas (including Nanni Moretti’s Cinema Nuovo Sacher). There are also discounts on courses at the Goethe Institute, entry to the Bioparco, discounts on gyms, subscriptions, free usage of the internet in libraries, etc, etc.
You can get a Bibliocard in your local library. (Assuming your local library is in Rome.)
