I’m seeing a lot of posters in metro stations for the upcoming Roma Fiction Fest. The poster features a cinema screen with the festival logo splashed across it. I thought it might be yet another Rome film festival, but it turns out to be a new annual festival dedicated to television fiction.

There will be some previews of new series, some retrospectives and (I suspect) a great deal of schmoozing. Screenings - some of which are free, with tickets allocated on a first come, first served basis - will be taking place at Multisala Adriano, the Auditorium and the Palazzo Della Rovere in Via della Conciliazione. There will also be a highly specialised retrospective at the Casa del Cinema - dedicated to Rai television dramatizations of Russian novels.

The festival runs July 2-7 - more details on their website here (and I’ll add it to our annual events section soon).

The website also features a photograph of Malcolm McDowell. Apparently he’s in a new mini-series of War and Peace, which will premiere at the festival.
