I recently discovered the website of Pierreci, who take care of the bookings and reservations for some of Rome’s monuments. As well as the standard things like The Colosseum (and until its recent reclosure, the Domus Aurea), Pierreci can also arrange tours of some of Rome’s more obscure treasures.
For example, twice a month, at 11am on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, they run visits to the Pyramid of Caius Cestius at the Protestant Cemetery.
Other rare visits include:
- Casa dei Grifi on the Palatine Hill (in Italian, on the 1st Saturday of every month at 10:30 am, or booked in advance in a choice of languages and at a choice of times, for €100 for your party).
- Fonte di Anna Perenna (1st and 3th Sunday of every month, 11 am)
- Mitreo di Santo Stefano Rotondo (on the 4th Saturday of every month at 10:30 am)
- Tempio Rotondo al Foro Boario the instantly recognisable “round temple” in Piazza Bocca della Verità (on the 1st and 3th Sunday of every month at 11 am)
- Tombe di (Tombs of) Via Latina (on the 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday of every month at 11 am)
Enquiries and bookings can be made through Pierreci at (+39) 06 39967700.
